Al Wurth’s Teaching BIO
Al Wurth is a current Vol. fire-fighter/ EMT and a Vol. Search and Rescue Technician. He is a former flight
medic, park ranger and law enforcement officer as well. He is now a part-time independent Safety Consultant
and Trainer.
Mr. Wurth was also an Adjunct Fire Science Instructor with the Nevada State Fire Marshal’s office, a registered
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Instructor, an Advanced EMT, a K-9 search dog handler, and a college
instructor for the Nevada State System of Higher Education. Mr. Wurth was also the Lead Training Officer at
the world-renowned University of Nevada – Reno, Fire Science Academy and School of Emergency
Management in Elko, Nevada. There he taught Hazmat, WMD, Fire-Fighting, Emergency Response, OSHA
Safety and Disaster Preparation courses to businesses and to the public safety sector.
Mr. Wurth is also a US Homeland Security Hazmat / WMD trainer with permanent teaching credentials. He has
attended the CORBRA - CNB Training School in Anniston, AL; Bomb Hazmat Tech. training in Socorro, NM
and Radiation Hazmat Response at Bechtel / the Nevada Test Site.
Currently, Mr. Wurth teaches conventional 1st Aid and Wilderness First Aid , to Search and Rescue Teams,
CPR, First Responder through the National Association of Search and Rescue (NASAR) and the Health Safety
Institute (HSI – ASHI); He also teaches FEMA Community Emergency Response Teams (C.E.R.T.) - plus, he
taught National Ski Patrol’s award - winning Outdoor Emergency Care curriculum. He was also a former
search dog handler. Al was the past president of the Pierce County Search and Rescue Council, and a 4x4
SAR Technician and founding president of the Northern Nevada K-9 Search & Rescue Association.
As a current nationally - registered EMT, he is a member with Mason County Search & Rescue in Shelton, WA.
In his past “spare time,” he was an active volunteer National Ski Patroller for over 25 years, where he ski
patrolled in the California Lake Tahoe Region and later the Washington State Cascade Mountains providing
winter search & rescue services.
Mr. Wurth is occasionally asked to present at various safety and emergency conferences, both domestically
and overseas. He has trained emergency response teams domestically, internationally and to U.S. Embassies
overseas.
