INTRODUCTIONS
Dave Watson asked everyone to introduce themselves and state what it is they want to see PEP-C do. The concensus of comments included the following:
1. Focus on neighborhood and community preparedness
2. Face reality. Pick one task and do it well.
3. Develop a universal presentation for the neighborhood training program.
4. Raise disaster awareness in the community.
5. Make information available to individuals, families and neighborhoods.

Committees
1. PARET: Mark Yordy (not in attendance)
2. Webmaster: Sue Gillmore - The DWP (Dynamic Web Page) site was purchased on 25 July 2000 (Since the Bank would not issue an ATM card for our account and BigPlanet requires an ATM / credit card for hosting charges, I have authorized BigPlanet to charge my Discover Card. I keep this card for emergency use and pay off all charges immediately. I expect to be reimbursed on a monthly basis from PEP-C’s bank account.
Transferring Domain Name (from harbornet.com to BigPlanet.com) typically costs $90 through Network Solutions, Inc. By using the services of WebQuarry.com we were able to transfer our domain name through NSI for $15. Before domain name transfer could take place, contact information registered with NSI had to be updated by JoAnne. Once our information was updated I submitted a request to transfer the domain name. JoAnne acknowledged this transfer on 16 August and verification of the transfer was received 26 September. The domain server name and netaddress information was changed 28 September. We are waiting for Harbornet to respond by removing the old website from their index so that pep-c.org points to the new website. We expect this to take from 7 to 30 days. At that time we will establish an email account with BigPlanet for pep-c.org.
The organization of the new is based on the Family Emergency Preparedness Plan designed by FEMA / the American Red Cross and includes additional sections on Neighborhood Preparedness, Community Preparedness, information About Us (PEP-C) and Hot Topics. What the navigation bar does not show are the linked pages that give the viewer more detailed information.
The Potential Hazards section promotes the value of having a Family Disaster Plan and learning more about what disasters we face locally. Information in this section has been uploaded to the site and is currently available. The Disaster Plans Section promotes the creation of a Family Disaster Plan and invites the reader to first browse and then download a variety of forms to be filled out and compiled in a three ring binder. Since I am currently working on these forms they are not yet available on the website. Also, since I am working my way through the website from top to bottom, this is where the information stops. Everything listed in the navigation bar below this point is just a skeleton of what will eventually be included.
Question for the Committee: Do we want to restrict content information to the Gig Harbor/Key Peninsulas, the Puget Sound region or the Pacific Northwest?
I can continue to find good information out there in cyber-space to incorporate into the website, or I can turn portions of the website over to committee members who are experts in their fields or to anyone willing to take on a section of the website and make it their “baby.” The key advantage of having a Dynamic Website is the fact that anyone on the committee can access the owner’s suite via a common user name and password and upload information. The committee agreed to share the responsibility for publishing information on the website.
3. Training: JoAnne Gray in behalf of Candy Anderson – Nothing has happened since the Michael Buschmohle presentation. On October 12th, JoAnne is committed to giving a preparedness presentation at Peninsula Light Co. Pen. Light is currently taking registrations and JoAnne is looking for help.
4. Water Barrels: Marsh Allen – 53 barrels (at $13/each) were shipped to Alaska; they wanted 100. Barrel sales events should be posted on the calendar on the website. Marsh needs help for the October, November and December sales events. Dave Watson and Don and Tonya Lee volunteered to help October 21st. Joseph Jones and Hugh McMillan volunteered to help November 18th. Marsh said he would call someone to help out in December.
5. KGHP: Keith Stiles – Introduced Mike Ford as the new public access officer for the radio station. Keith Stiles announced Max Bice is at Cottesmore recovering from a bad auto accident. Visitors are encouraged. FISH food bank is having problems lately. KGHP is kicking off a FISH BOWL Oct 20 to Nov 17. This will feature a food drive near the Span Deli. Perhaps we could sell barrels or blankets. KGHP will do remote broadcasts from there. Sales by PEP-C should be by checks only. Who?????
6. Emergency Operations Center: Don Lee - The County Advisory Committee has finished its work on the PLAN. Further meetings will be called as necessary. He has a new job as part time Safety & Security Coordinator for the School District.
7. Peninsula School District: Dave Watson - Will have trained all staff in 15 schools and sites before December. He is working on incident command, Pierce County response systems, personnel preparedness, evacuation, search and rescue, sheltering, and security against ultra violence. The goal is a Pierce Responder system for response to schools for significant events. Another goal will be a way to go public with information for parents, etc. All schools had Search and Rescue tools delivered yesterday. [pry bars, gloves, helmets, lights…]
Hugh will ask Gary Franz about the rumored Longbranch Neighborhood Organization meeting. Fred is out of town.
Dave: if we are to participate in the parade in June, we should start now. Who will take the lead? We will pursue in January. Maybe we should involve Scouts. There are two strong Scout troops in churches: LDS and Chapel Hill. Also troop 222 on the Key Pen. Hugh will have info on them.
JoAnne observed the non-profit booth area was not heavily attended last June. Better would be to rent space for a booth in the arts fair area. Marsh said we should have visuals for things the committee does and display on boards and collages. Bob Jardin showed a 12 volt battery that could be used for low voltage lighting systems for emergency use.
