Treasurer's Report: approved
Committees
1. PARET: Mark Yordy. (not in attendance)
2. Webmaster: Sue Gillmore
Nothing new to report. The committee requested adding Don Lee to the water barrel page as a contact as well as a note that barrels are available for pick up or delivery in the Gig Harbor and Key Peninsual area.
3. Training: JoAnne Gray & Don Lee
Lots of neighborhoods are being trained with PC/NET. These training meetings have been a good source for water barrel sales. We have also been getting lots of kudos on our website from these meetings. The website has also been a good source for local water barrel sales.
4. Past Events
a. Health and Safety Expo (April 2004) - As we have in the past, PEP-C had a booth at this event. There was some interest from participants, however, the majority of visitors to the expo were mostly interested in the free health screening services that were made available.
b. PC Fair/Livable Community - we did not participate in this event due to lack of time and energy of committee members.
c. Partners in Preparedness (April 2004) - we did not participate in this event due to lack of time and energy of committee members.
d. PC/NET Academy was well attended and well done.
e. Gig Maritime Parade - we did not participate in this event this year due to the insurance policy requirement.
5. Future Events
Dave and Sue Watson extended an invitation to committee members and their families to join them for a day of fun at the lake near their new cabin in the Black Diamond area. The cabin is about a 55 minute drive from Gig Harbor. The committee was pleased to accept. The date was set for Saturday, August 7, 2004 beginning at 10 am. Dave reported that the fishing is good on the lake for those interested in the sport - he saw an 18 inch Trout caught recently. Lunch will be potluck.
6. Water: Marsh Allen, Don Lee, Dave Watson, Fred Ramsdell
Don Lee reported that we were 99.9% out of barrels before the new order arrived. We now have lots of red barrels - a hot item of late. A local business, Erin Rockery, recently bought four barrels for their Koi filtration system. Others have been interested in rain barrel use.
7. PIO: Hugh McMillan
Nothin to report. The committee needs to submit news tips and information for publication in the local newspaper.
8. KGHP: Keith Stiles
The station covered the parade and Blessing of the Fleet event. The station will be on 24/7 all summer. The bad news is the station has lost the battle with the takeover. But the good news is the war is not over. The KGHP 104.5 frequency feeds downtown Gig Harbor. If the station loses this frequency, Gig Harbor will be a dead spot and that is not acceptable to the community. The station has gotten a contract to strengthen the 89.9 frequency. Mercer Island (KMIH) also stands to lose a frequency. Appeals to the takeover will be filed but nothing will likely happen for at least three months - possibly a full year. This will give KGHP time to come up with a solution. The station will probably need to do some fundraising to finance a solution.
Dave Watson proposed that KGHP request a donation from PEP-C at the September 2004 meeting.
9. PSD: Dave Watson
Nothing to report other than Dave expects to get hired on part time with the Peninsula School District and will be able to report preparedness progress at the next meeting.
10. Fire Districts
Fire District 5 has acquired a new water craft for water rescue services. Rescue workers are almost done with their training. The craft can be transported and launched just about anywhere. Dave noted that it is a good looking boat.
New Business
1. Elections
Hugh McMillan was nominated to remain on the Board of Directors for the next three years. The motion was seconded and approved.
2. Recruiting
JoAnne raised the question about expanding the committee. We currently have a small group of dedicated people. Don Lee proposed recruiting at the PC/NET training sessions and urging local citizens to get involved. It was proposed that PEP-C try having "coffee" meetings and inviting the public to listen to a single topic educational presentation.
3. Assignment
Committee members were asked to take some PEP-C brochures and distribute them as well as talk to organizations about having a PEP-C presentation.
4. Earthquake Videos
A motion was made to purchase some Channel 9 Earthquake videos and place them in local libraries. The motion was seconded and approved. JoAnne will purchase the videos including a copy for PEP-C.
5. Revised Drop-Cover-Hold policy
The American Rescue team is advising that the current Drop-Cover-Hold policy for earthquake safety be revised. JoAnne will investigate, email source information for further discussion.
6. Laptop
Don Lee proposed the purchase of a surplus laptop and software for PowerPoint presentations. The motion was seconded and approved. Don Lee is authorized to spend up to $500 to acquire these items. Dave Watson volunteered to contact the School Districts for surplus equipment availability.
7. Peninsula Light
Pensilua Light Company has requested payment for the kits in our possession or their return. Dave Watson said he has a couple. Fred Ramsdell has several. It was agreed to contact Cindy Whitaker for the return of these items.
