Committees
1. KGHP: Keith Stiles reported on KGHP. The radio station has completed 20 years of broadcasting. Keith is the only remaining founder of the station. They have run 24/7 since our last meeting, fully automated most of the time. Currently 24 students in each of 2 classes are working. All is working well. There is a nation-wide “all-platform” Warning System coming that will involve all forms of communication including cell, pdas, etc as well as radio and tv. It should provide simultaneous notification of large emergencies. The current “tree” system has not worked well if some parts of it are not available. A proposal to FCC will be within 6 months for implementation in 2010.
KGHP will be needing additional equipment for this implementation as well as current needs. Hugh moved we give $5,000 to KGHP for its role as emergency entity. We agreed to encumber $5000 for equipment. Keith will work out the best way to handle this on the books.
2. Barrel Sales: Don Lee reported we are low on barrels and will order 50 bung-top barrels and as many of the open top kind as we can get. There is much demand for those for dry storage and rain barrels.
3. Webmaster: No news on web site or Sue, as she was in the path of hurricane IKE and out of communication.
4. DEM: Debbie Bailey, PC DEM, is attending a weather seminar at NOAA on Oct 1. Because of the lack of el-nino effect this year more severe weather is forecast for the winter. Perhaps even an ice storm as we had in 1996. Hugh will get news articles in both papers on the results of this and also try for the PenLight Newsletter. Julie Fisher is the contact.
The Dept of Emergency Management is holding an all day drill at the new EOC in Tacoma on October 15th.
5. Projects: Don Lee has been working on doing sheltering via the churches. Chapel Hill is established. The Key Peninsula Lutheran is willing and Fox Island Alliance also. There is a need for HAM base sets at these sites. We will look for donations of used sets and money for new. We will look to Mark Yordy for help with this.
6. EOC: Dave Watson suggested we reserve funds for providing food for EOC crew during emergencies. Don Lee so moved. Passed.
Dave announced there were a number of ways PEP-C members could help at the EOC in an emergency: taxi service, man water hydrants for citizen fills, greet visitors, phones, etc. Just to take note of this and be ready to help.
