REPORTS
Treasurer's Report: approved as distributed
Don Lee suggested we think about how to best spend our money. Shelters are needed on the Peninsula. Places like Palmer Lake and Fox Island, reached by bridges, could be cut off after an earthquake.
Our offer of $9000.00 to the school district to buy a generator for operating the school kitchen was withdrawn. We voted to give the School District $3970.35 to repay the loan to radio station KGHP.
Committees
1. KGHP: Keith Stiles reported on radio emergency stations. A new, overall system is coming in a year or two that will change things in broadcasting. FCC may require 24 hour duty on all radio stations. This could put us out of business. Pierce County relies on KGHP in an emergency. Keith sees a real need for underground phone lines on Key Peninsula. An earthquake or a big windstorm could shut down KGHP. Century Tel has no plans to get their lines underground. We are still unable to come up with a plan for a new link between fire Station 5 and KGHP
Gretchen suggested getting downtown shop owners involved in promoting KGHP – airing it in their stores. Also, we could connect with local elected officials perhaps for Preparedness Week in April. Gretchen has asked the manager of Ace Hardware to display items relating to preparedness for sale.
2. Barrel Sales: Don Lee reported on the Health Fair. Four people signed up for barrels.
3. School Districts: The district is working to get supplies in each school. Dave has learned about a large storage container which would hold supplies.
Keith reported that Amazon has a power plant, relatively small that can be recharged. Cost about $100.00.
4. Website: Progress on transferring content from the old website to the new website template continues, albeit slowly.
